Grace (Gracie) Kennedy Fife Crawford, 61, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away Tuesday, October 28, 2025, surrounded by family and friends.
A native of Birmingham, Alabama, and the daughter of Grace and Ernest Fife, Jr., Grace is survived by her four beautiful and loving daughters, Caroline Grace Crawford Patterson (John Patterson III), Margaret Rose Jones, Sara Fife Crawford, Claire Anne Crawford, her husband, Robert H. Crawford Jr., and her sisters Angeline Fife and Deirdre Fife Knight.
Following a career in banking, Grace was the owner of Sea Island Suds, serving the Mt. Pleasant community for over 15 years. She is fondly remembered as a generous soul and friend to all. In the last five years of Grace’s life, she dedicated her time to expanding outreach to those in need, founding the One Community Food Bank to combat the hunger struggles many in her community faced as a result of the Covid-19 lockdown. The One Community Food Bank continues to thrive and truly reflects Grace’s commitment to championing on behalf of others. She was a fierce advocate for all, encouraging all around her to follow their wildest dreams.
As a child, Grace loved all things artistic and continued to embrace art as an adult, painting everything from her children to sunsets to the flowers of her garden. Grace’s ultimate love was her four girls, and nothing made her happier than experiencing different cultures through travel, art, and food with them. Regardless of whether Grace was in Paris, France, New York City, Boulder, Colorado, Moab, Utah, or Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, the genuine source of her happiness was her family. She was married for 24 years to her surviving, loving husband, Robert, who supported Grace in all of her endeavors. Grace gave her children a beautiful life filled with magic only she could create. In keeping with Grace’s artistic interests, Grace loved dance, live music, and she especially enjoyed listening to her nephew Ryan Engelberger’s songs.
There are no words to fully describe the strong, loving, passionate, and fun person Grace was. Her family and friends were often surprised by the wildly imaginative practical jokes Grace took joy in playing on them. Her family and friends are deeply saddened by her passing and her struggle with Bulbar Onset ALS that took her far too early. She will be fervently missed. Her family will cherish their memory of Grace being the strongest, kindest, and most intelligent woman they will ever know.
The family is grateful for the support of dear and caring friends, relatives, the commitment and dedication of her caregivers over the recent months, and fundraising from local businesses.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Compassionate Care ALS (https://ccals.org), where Grace was provided with kindness and comfort throughout her battle.
A celebration of life will take place at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, on November 15th, 2025, at 11:00 am.
