Gordon Daniel Davis

Gordon Daniel Davis, known as Dan Davis of Mt. Pleasant, SC died at the age of 94 on January 10, 2024.

Dan was born and raised in Hapeville and East Point, Georgia. During his teenage years, Dan worked as a soda jerk at Crews Pharmacy, delivered groceries and newspapers and developed a lifelong love of cars. After graduation from Russell High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served aboard ship in Japan during the Korean War. When his military service was cut short by a tuberculosis diagnosis, he rehabbed in Augusta, Georgia where he first proposed to his wife Betty Ann Fowler Davis. They were married on June 19, 1955. After completing rehabilitation, Dan returned to East Point, Georgia. He graduated from Southern Technical Institute and worked for over 30 years for Otis Elevator Company in Atlanta, Georgia, Merritt Island, Florida and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. When their first grandchild was born, Dan and Betty Ann moved from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina as he jokingly said to “save on wear and tear on Highway 17".  After moving to Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, Dan and Betty Ann became members of Christ Church, now Christ Church Anglican, where they were faithful worshipers at the 8:00am service in the historic church. Dan served on the Vestry, on church committees, and occasionally taught Sunday School. Dan was an avid golfer who was still able to shoot his age in his 80s. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and loved a good party. A favorite pastime while living on Colfax Court was spending time at “The Point”, a neighborhood meeting spot behind their house.

Dan was a loving father and grandfather and especially enjoyed fishing trips with his grandsons. Dan was a beloved husband to Betty Ann Fowler Davis for 68 years. He is also survived by two daughters, Dana Turner (Brandon) and Rebecca Fletcher; grandsons, Gavin Fletcher, Hayden Fletcher, and Reid Fletcher; sister, Sandra Gardner (Jimmy); nephews Scott Gardner (Sandy) and Drew Gardner and their children, Nicholas Gardner (Suzie), Russell Gardner and Leah Gardner; an unofficially adopted daughter Donna Krantz (Bob); and his faithful canine companion Henry. Dan is preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Flanagan, father, Eudoxus Davis, stepfather, Heywood Flanagan, stepbrother, Eddie Davis, and son-in-law, Michael Fletcher.
