Gloria Ducker Yeager

Gloria Ducker Yeager, widow of Warren H. “Jack” Yeager entered into eternal rest on Thursday, January 30, 2025, just a few weeks shy of her 100th birthday. After many years of waiting, she has gone to be with her dear Jack, and her Lord. Funeral services will be held at St. James Episcopal Church, 1872 Camp Road, James Island, SC on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 11:00 am with burial in the church cemetery. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.

Gloria was born February 22, 1925 in Charleston, SC, the youngest and last survivor of seven children born to the late George and Cornelia Ducker. She lived in her house on Sumter Street until she was married in 1952. She attended Memminger High School where she excelled in sports becoming captain of their varsity basketball team and also played soccer. After graduation, Gloria attended Rice Business School and worked for the South Carolina Power Company, now Dominion Energy. During that time, she married the love of her life, Jack and began her family. Gloria left the company after 15 years of service to raise her children and later returned to work as the Accounts Receivable and Billing Clerk for the Prescription Center in downtown Charleston for over 20 years.

In 1957, Jack and Gloria built a house on James Island leaving their dearly loved St. Peter’s Episcopal Church downtown and joined St. James Episcopal Church on the island. She and Jack became immersed in the life of the church. Gloria sang in the choir for over 45 years and served on the Altar Guild for many years. She played an active role in the women of the church where she served as President and held numerous offices in service to them. Gloria was one of several women who used their talents to create exquisite needlepoint crafted communion kneelers which added beauty to the sanctuary. Her heart belonged to her church where she served faithfully all of her life. Jack and Gloria were also long time members of the James Island Dance Club where they enjoyed the companionship of dear friends for many years.

Gloria is survived by her three children: Warren H. Yeager, Jr. (Mindy) of Richmond,VA, Kim Y. Huff (The Rev. Christopher Huff) of Charleston, SC and Cheryl A. Yeager of Mount Holly, NC; five grandchildren: Christopher M. Huff, Jr. of James Island, SC, Jennifer L. Huff (James Christopher) of James Island, SC, Ashley R. Umphlet (Dillard) of Summerville, SC, Warren “Hamilton” Yeager III of Westfield, IN, and Lauren C. Yeager of Carmel, IN; four great-grandchildren: Matthew D. Umphlet, Donovan M. Huff, Dante G. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and God-children who brought much joy to her by their very presence.

Gloria was predeceased by her beloved Jack, to whom she was married for 46 years; their first-born infant son, Wayne Randall Yeager; and her great-grandchild, Derek Killian Huff. She was also predeceased by three brothers: Marion, Leroy and Constantine “Connie” Ducker; and three sisters: Dorothy Hoff, Thelma Holl and Lois Barnett.

Gloria was the matriarch of our large family and she set the bar high for the rest of us. She demonstrated unfathomable strength and endurance during many challenges, especially in the last several months of her life. Gloria's children wish to give special thanks to our extended family and friends for their unwavering help as well as Home Instead Home Care and Indigo Hall.We would also like to thank the nurses on the Cardiac Care floor of Roper Hospital downtown for the extraordinary care she received. Working together with the Hospice nurses, they formed a team of care that gave our family confidence that our mother was being cared for with love. They were as much of a blessing to us as they were to our mother.
