Gloria Frances McDonald, 95, of Ladson, SC, died Monday, March 29, 2010, peacefully at home.
Born June 5, 1914 in New York, NY she was the daughter of Henry E. McDonald and Ellen Cecilia Wilde McDonald. Oscar Wilde was her second cousin. In 1934 Gloria was a dancer with Gertrude Hoffmann Dancing Girls, a New York Dance Troupe. The troupe travelled from NY to CA and then to Paris, France. Gloria returned to Hempstead, NY to help care for her mother and she worked as a technician at Sperry Gyroscope on microwave radar technology. In 1976 she moved to SC with her mother.
Ms. McDonald is survived by her sisters, Dolores McDonald Rice of Aurora, CO and Madeline McDonald Kane of Ontario, Canada; many nieces and nephews and their families (especially Diane Kiernan, who was like a daughter to her); and long time friend and caregiver, Marla Riley. She was preceded in death by her brother, William E. McDonald "Bill"; and two sisters, Annabelle Walton and Doris Kiernan.
The family will receive friends in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road Saturday, April 3, 2010, beginning at 6:00 PM and a Prayer Vigil at 6:30 PM.
