Gloria Cohen Goldenstein

Gloria Goldenstein, 85, of Charleston, SC, formerly of Manhasset Hills, New York, died peacefully in her sleep at home, as she wanted, after a short illness. A graveside funeral service will be held Monday, March 13, 2017, at Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens, at 11 a.m. The family will be sitting Shiva Monday following the service and Tuesday from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Downtown Chapel.

Gloria was born May 10, 1931 in Brooklyn NY, the only child of Samuel and Frieda Cohen.

Gloria, a graduate of New York University, receiving both her undergraduate degree and her Master of Education, loved the time she spent in the classroom with her students at P.S. 24. She stopped teaching to raise her three children, Fredda, Jeffrey, and Randi. Once they were old enough, she returned back to the workforce, this time to work in the garment industry where she remained for over 30 years, with a large portion of that time working side by side with her son.

Gloria was many things, but first and foremost a New Yorker through and through. She was a spirited straight shooter, immaculate dresser, and a sports fan. She loved the New York Times, the NY Knicks (when they were good), the NY Islanders (when they were good), and the NY Yankees (when they were good) and also loved boxing and attended the Ali vs Frazier fight at New York's Madison Square Garden in January of 1974.

She was a devoted mother who loved spending time with her children and respective spouses, Fredda & Rick Kramer of Dobbs Ferry, NY, Jeffrey Gold of New York, NY, and Randi & Victor Weinstein of Charleston, SC.

Possibly more than her children, she loved her three grandchildren, Seth Cohen, Jamie Kramer and Keller Gold, as they were all very special to her, and she developed strong bonds with each of them. She loved the art of letter writing and cherished both sending and receiving mail from them all.

She is predeceased by her parents and husband, Jorden Goldenstein.

The family would like to thank her caregivers that allowed her to have the dignity she desired until the very end, Cassandra Green ( a true angel) and Ella Mae Porter, as well as Chris with Roper Hospice.
