Her funeral service will be held Thursday, September 21, 2023, at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, 30 Race St., Charleston 29403, at 1:00 pm, followed by her interment at Live Oak Memorial Gardens, 3093 Ashley River Rd., Charleston, SC 29414. The family will receive friends a half hour before the service at the church. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mt Pleasant Chapel.
Gloria was born in Pleasant Mount, PA, and was the youngest of six children of Demetrius and Mary Korba, who ran the general store in this small, Pennsylvania farm town. She attended Keystone College in La Plume, PA, then moved to New York City. Gloria later attended Fairley Dickenson University in New Jersey where she pursued a degree in psychology.
In 1978, she and her husband, Raymond Geiger, settled in Mt. Pleasant, SC, where they became very involved with the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity. Gloria was an integral part of the Philoptokos Society. She enjoyed learning about medicine and nature and was very interested in politics. She also enjoyed long chats with her close friends and family and wrote poetry.
She was also an animal lover and took great pleasure in caring for her beloved pets.
Gloria is most remembered by her family for her selfless caring and love. She was kind and giving and always put her family first.
Gloria became a grandmother four times over, and a great grandmother of three. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, in 2019, and is survived by her daughters, Jacqueline (Card) Christie of Miami, FL, Diane (Card) Bise of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Faith Geiger of James Island, SC, grandchildren Charles S. Barrs III, Stacey (Barrs) Lantz, Christine Bise, and Natalie (Bise) Gottschalk, and by great-grandchildren Charles S. Barrs IV, Aubrey Heichberger, and Ethan Heichberger. She will be sorely missed by all.
Memorials may be made in her honor to the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity Endowment Fund, www.gocharleston.org/give, 30 Race St., Charleston, SC 29403.
