Gloria Jean Cooper

March 31, 1944 — November 2, 2010

Gloria Jean Cooper, 66, of Charleston, SC went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 2, 2010.  She fought a courageous battle with breast cancer, and was surrounded by her loving family at the time of her home going.


Jean was born on March 31, 1944 in Shelbyville, Illinois.  She was a devoted member of Charleston Baptist Church, where she attended the Cornerstone Sunday School Class. Jean was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.  She will be missed by many.


Survivors include her husband of 39 years, John Cooper, Sr.; three daughters: Debbie Lane, Lisa Follis, Mary Sires Shumate (Charles); one son: John Cooper, Jr. (Chrissy): five grandchildren: Chrissy Yonce (Trey), Kelly Henderson (R.D.), Erica Sires Smith (Zack), Bliss Sires, Faith Cooper: five great-grandchildren: two sisters: Brenda Jackson and Peggy Higgins: two brothers: Terry Follis and Ray Evans; and special friend: Sharyn Cervay.  She is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Follis; a son, Frankie Follis: two grandchildren, Christian and Joshua Cooper: and one brother, Dave Kortte.


A memorial service will be conducted by Dr. Jack Moore at Charleston Baptist Church at 2:00 PM, Sunday, November 7, 2010.  Family, church family and friends are invited to attend.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Contributions be made in her memory to Charleston Baptist Church Building Fund, 13 San Miguel Road, Charleston, SC 29407.
