Gloria Schraibman Adelson, 79, of Charleston, South Carolina entered into eternal rest Thursday, November 30, 2023. Her graveside service will be held Sunday, December 3, 2023 in Emanu-El Cemetery (Maryville) at 1:00 pm. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel. Gloria was born August 3, 1944 in Savannah, Georgia, daughter of the late Lee Roy Schraibman and Edith Horovitz Schraibman. She was the widow of Joseph H. Adelson. Later, Gloria and Sy Baron became partners in life and shared each other's families and many wonderful experiences.
Gloria was a retired Director of Finance at Charleston Naval Shipyard for the Sixth Naval District, where she received many awards and commendations. Gloria was known to all for her kindness and thoughtfulness to everyone she met. She was also known for her charitable works for many different organizations such as Hadassah, Arthritis Foundation and Women's League of Conservative Judaism, including being President of the Emanu-El Sisterhood many times and Vice President of the National Sisterhood Organization.
Gloria was always looking for ways to learn new things. She took classes at the College of Charleston and even took Yiddish classes online. Although she did not have a large extended family, her dear friends became her family. These friends loved her dearly and she loved them in return.
She is survived by her sister, Helen S. Braunstein of Brookhaven, Georgia; her neices, Beth Braunstein, Sarah McCartha (Daniel), Amy Braunstein Horovitz (Eric) and Sy Baron's extended family including his sons and their families.
