Glenn Thomas Rickborn died on Friday, February 1, 2025 at the age of 86. He was born in Reevesville, South Carolina on August 24, 1938 to William Walters Rickborn and Grace Heaton Rickborn. After graduating from St. George High School, he attended and graduated from the Charleston Naval Shipyard Apprentice Program in the 4 year woodcrafter program. He worked in the Charleston Naval Shipyard for 38 years, serving in various roles including the General Foreman Woodcrafter in Shop 64 and later Nuclear Director. He earned many sustained superior awards and accolades during his many years of distinguished service. He also served in the SC National Guard for 9 years and retired as a sergeant.
He was a member St. Mark’s Lutheran Church on the Isle of Palms, where he served as the Vice President of the congregation and church council for more than 25 years. He deeply loved the church and its congregation, and had the honor of accepting the key to the church from the Bishop of South Carolina on behalf of the congregation when the church was built and dedicated. He also served as the President of the East Cooper Branch of Lutheran Brotherhood.
He was an avid supporter of Clemson University. He loved watching all Clemson sports, especially going to Death Valley to watch the Clemson Tigers play. He was a member of the Charleston County Clemson Club Board of Directors and an IPTAY member and representative. He lived on the Isle of Palms for more than 57 years before moving to Mt. Pleasant. He loved camping, fishing, and hunting. He was known for his generous heart and willingness to help others.
He is survived by his wife Linda Schroder Rickborn, two sons Glenn Thomas Rickborn Junior (Jessica) and Timothy W. Rickborn (Nerina), and 4 grandchildren Rachel, Sarah, Noah, and Lilly. He is also survived by his sister Lois Barsha (Woody) and brother-in-law Eddie Schroder (Diane). There will be a viewing on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel. His funeral will be held at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at Bethany Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations to be sent to Lutheran Homes of SC, St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, or Carolina Children’s Charity.
