Gladys Nave Matheson

Gladys Dove Nave Thompson Matheson, widow of the late J.S. Thompson and A. J. (Sambo) Matheson of Summerville, SC, died Thursday, August 25, 2011.

 The relatives and friends of Gladys Matheson are invited to attend her Funeral Service on Sunday, August 28, 2011 in Burroughs-Cooper-Kiser Funeral Home of Bennettsville, SC at 1:00 pm.  Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Local arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 28, 2011 in Burroughs-Cooper-Kiser Funeral Home from 12:00 noon until time of the service. The family will be at the residence of Gladys Graham, 203 Fayetteville Avenue, Bennettsville, SC until the day of the service. 

Gladys was born February 10, 1921 in Memphis, Tennessee, daughter of the late Isaac Clinton Nave and Nannie Saylor Nave.  She grew up in Jonesboro, TN, and spent most of her adult life in Bennettsville, SC. She moved to the Presbyterian Home in Summerville, S.C., in 2003.

She is survived by her daughters, Frances T. Hay (Frank S. Hay, Jr.) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Gladys T. Graham of Bennettsville, SC, Estelle T. Holloway (Aubrey Holloway) of Tuscaloosa, AL,  sons James (Jimmy) S. Thompson, Jr. (Margaret Ayers ) of Lexington, SC, Herbert C. Thompson (Brenda Brown ) of Darlington, SC, step-daughter Patti Penn (George Dixon) of Murrells Inlet, SC, sister Helen Grills of Fairfield Glade, TN, brother John Nave of Kingsport, TN, grandchildren Gretchen Penney of Charleston, SC, Shawn Charlow of Charleston, SC, Peter McKellar of Mt. Pleasant, SC, David Graham of Bennettsville, SC, Gigi Ward of Tallahassee, FL, Clint Thompson of Darlington, SC, Alex Thompson of Summerville, SC, Jim Thompson of Lexington, SC and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, The Reverend Dr. Lester D. Nave.
