Gilbert Rogers Stauss

June 6, 1927 — December 30, 2018

Gilbert Rogers Stauss, 91, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of the late Novelene Godwin Stauss died Sunday, December 30, 2018. His graveside service will be held with full military honors on Saturday, January 5, 2019 in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road at 12:00 noon. The family will receive friends in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel on Saturday from 11:00 am until time of the graveside service.

Gil was born June 6, 1927 in Thomasville, North Carolina, son of the late August John Stauss and the late Elma Mae Clodfelter Stauss. He entered the Merchant Marines at the age of 16 and went on to serve 20 years in the United States Marine Corps. Gil was on active duty at the latter part of World War II and served two tours in Korea and two tours in Vietnam. He was a Safety Inspector at Detyens Shipyard for thirty years, retiring at the age of 75.

He is survived by daughter, Cindy Stauss Longshore (Earl) of Prosperity, SC; son, John Scott Stauss of Wando, SC; granddaughter, Lynn Longshore of Mt. Pleasant, SC. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter Alexis Valerie Stauss.
