Gertrude E. Stiller, of Mount Pleasant, SC, and formerly of Oil City, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loving family members, on March 22, 2025. Born in 1931 in Philadelphia, Trudy, as she was affectionately known, touched countless lives with her strength and generosity.
Trudy filled many roles throughout her life. In her youth in Philadelphia, she worked as a secretary at the Port Authority, where she met her beloved husband, Richard. After relocating to Oil City, Trudy worked at Brody’s Department Store, and later, she devoted her time to the cafeteria of St. Stephen’s School. She was an active member of St. Stephen’s Church, and with her husband, who was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, she could often be found socializing with family and friends at Oil City’s K of C hall.
For her family, Trudy’s most important roles were “Mom” and “Nana.” She was a matriarch in the truest sense of the word, and she was fiercely devoted to her family. Always available when help and support were needed, Trudy shaped four generations of children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and now a great-great grandchild, who will be profoundly impacted by her absence.
In addition to her parents, Trudy was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Stiller; her daughter, Dianne Stiller; three sisters Anna Renzulli, Loretta Looby, and Rosemarie Lucas; and 5 brothers, Jack, James, Tom, Charles, and Joseph Leonard…She is also preceded in death by niece Deborah Wagner, with whom she was close.
She is survived by one daughter, Janet McDonald (Joe) of Mount Pleasant, SC, and two sons, Richard, Jr. (Mary Jo) and Thomas (Cathy), both of Erie. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren, Heather McDonald (Denzil), Megin Carrara (Jay), Amy Stiller, Thomas Stiller, Jr. (Abby), Elizabeth McDonald, Matthew Stiller (Ashley), Sean Stiller, and April Davidson (Mark), plus seven great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received on April 25th from 11:00 A.M.-12:00 noon at St. Joseph’s Church 35 Pearl Ave. Oil City, PA. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.
