Gertrude King Appleby

October 15, 1917 — June 19, 2011

Gertrude King Appleby, widow of Milton Allen Appleby, entered into eternal rest on the evening of June 19, 2011.  Residence, Mt. Pleasant, SC. The relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral services in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL Thursday, June 23, 2011 at 11:00 am. Friends may call at Stuhr's one hour prior to the service.  Interment, St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.


Mrs. Appleby was born October 15, 1917 in Mt. Pleasant, SC, the daughter of Langdon Cheves King and Emily Ann Hamlin King.  She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, where she was the treasurer of Lambreth-McEldowney Circle and Sunshine Chairman.  Mrs. Appleby was a graduate of Memminger High School and Rice Business College in Charleston.  She was on the swimming team at Memminger.


Mrs. Appleby was employed at the Port of Embarkation during World War II and was employed at the Citizens and Southern National Bank where she was an Officer's Assistant.


She is survived by her step-daughter: Ann Appleby MacMillan (Ben); niece: Nancy King Longest (Ben); nephew: Langdon Cheves King, III (Louise), and grandnephew, Dr. Tommy Appleby.  She was preceded in death by her niece, Ann King Barbero (Timothy).
