Jerry grew up in Elmsford, NY, and served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II as a radio operator and door gunner on a B-24 Liberator. While in the Army Air Corps he received The Distinguished Flying Cross, 2 Air Medals with oak leaf clusters, a Good Conduct medal, and China-Burma-India Theater medals. After leaving the war, he returned to upstate New York where he first attended Champlain College on a football scholarship and then attended Columbia University. He was transferred to Charleston in 1966 while working with Sealand Containers and the family settled on James Island. Jerry was very involved with youth and sports volunteering many hours while coaching basketball and football at the YMCA. He was past president of the Bishop England High School Triple B Club and can be remembered as the infamous clock man running the clock at all BEHS home basketball games for over a decade. Jerry was an active member of the Church of the Nativity and Our Lady of Good Counsel. He enjoyed attending his children's sports and activities and watching his family grow.
After Lois' death in 2001, Jerry continued to be regularly involved in church, playing golf and cards with his friends and his grandchildren. Even as his health declined, his sense of humor did not and he enjoyed everyone he would meet.
