Gerald "Wayne" Knight, 66, of Charleston, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Sunday, December 21, 2014. His Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, December 30, 2014 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until the time of Service. Burial will be held in Beaufort National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.
Gerald "Wayne" was born April 20, 1948 in Greenville, South Carolina, son of the late George Knight and Mildred Elmore Knight. He grew up in Kingsport, Tennessee where he developed a love of nature. He attended East Tennessee State University before going into the Army, where he served from 1969 until 1975 and overseas in Vietnam. He then attended the University of Tennessee and earned his Electronics Engineering degree in 1983. In 1983 he began his career in California with the Department of the Navy. In 1985 he became employed locally for SPAWAR and served as an electronics engineer in that capacity since that time. Known for his soft spoken, gentle mannerisms and humility, Wayne was always devoted to his family. He was the fixer of all things broken and had the constant patience to find solutions to everyone's problems. His hobbies included: woodworking, gardening, bread baking, and caring for his grandson.
He is survived by his wife, Pamela Knight, daughter, Megan Pallay (Geoff) all of Charleston, SC; two brothers, Allen Knight of Knoxville, TN, and Charles Knight of Kingsport, TN; sister, Abby Hughes of Kingsport, TN; one grandson, Cameron Pallay; several nieces and nephews.
