Entered into eternal rest on the morning of February 8, 2011 Gerald Joseph Ahearn, Sr., widower of Vivian Jeanette Huckabee Ahearn. Residence, Charleston, SC. The relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial Friday, February 11, 2011 in St. Joseph Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Prayers of Final Commendation and Farewell will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
Mr. Ahearn was born March 10, 1924 in Providence, Rhode Island, a son of the late Eugene E. Ahearn and the late Nora Kelly Ahearn. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific and was aboard the USS Perry when it was sunk. He later served aboard the USS Hobson and was a member of the USS Hobson Society for the rest of his life. Mr. Ahearn was a retired Elevator Inspector, member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, American Legion Post 179, and the Fleet Reserve Branch 50.
He is survived by his son, Gerald Joseph Ahearn, Jr. and his wife Jill Ahearn of Charleston; his daughter, Deborah A Risher and her husband Randy Risher of Charleston; a sister, Barbara G. Curry of Winchester, VA; a brother, Eugene F. Ahearn of Sun City Center, FL; 7 grandchildren, Randy Jr., Tabitha, Robby, Ryan, Jessica, Tricia and Kati; and 4 great grandchildren.
