Georgia Carline Clemmons Walters

May 17, 1908 — May 12, 2012

Carline Walters, widow of James Bert Walters of Charleston, SC, went to be with her Lord on May 12, 2012, at her home, just a few days shy of her 104th birthday.

Mrs. Walters was born May 17, 1908 in Fair Bluff, NC, daughter of the late George M. Clemmons and Arrie Jane Ward Clemmons. She graduated from Hillsboro High School, North Carolina. In the early 1930's, she delivered mail in her Model A Ford. In later years, she owned and managed a local grocery store.

Mrs. Walters was a member of Charleston Baptist Church. Her life was spent serving the Lord and others who could not help themselves. She taught Sunday School classes for forty years. Her friends will remember her for having regular Bible studies in her home until recent health problems prevented her from doing so. Even though 103 and blind, she was still interested and involved in the lives of her family and friends. Her hobbies were fishing and gardening. When she was 100 she could still be seen raking her yard.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, T. Elbert Clemmons and Rody R. Clemmons; a daughter, Betty Walters Aronson; a son-in-law, Dr. Raymond E. Ackerman; and two granddaughters, Debbie Walters Harden and Jill Ackerman Gleaton.

Her survivors are a son, Jimmy Walters of Ivey, GA; a daughter, Maxine Walters Ackerman. She leaves nine grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, twenty-two great-great grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews, and very special caregivers.

A service celebrating her 103 years will be held at Charleston Baptist Church on Monday, May 14, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Jack Moore and Reverend David Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, Charleston, SC from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bread of Life Food Ministry or to Charleston Baptist Church Building Fund.
