Georgia Hyman Hughes, 88, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Saturday, December 30, 2023. Her Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, January 2, 2024 in J. Henry Stuhr Inc. Mt. Pleasant Chapel, at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Georgia Lee was born August 4, 1935 in Pamplico, South Carolina, daughter of the late Walter Angler Hyman and Maybelle Calcutt Hyman.
She was a teacher for 31 years in Blackville, SC. She was an avid sports fan and loved cheering on the Gamecocks. Georgia was very involved in church, Bible study and Sunday school. She was a member of First Baptist of Mt. Pleasant for many years and later joined Life Park. She enjoyed baking for special occasions and was famous for her red velvet and pound cakes.
She is survived by her son, Charles Haskell Hughes Jr (Cindy); daughter, Tammy Hughes Toribio (J.R.); Mema's four grandchildren, Cody Hughes (Tara), Ragin Hughes, Rebecca Toribio, Matthew Toribio; and sister, Joyce Hyman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Haskell Hughes Sr., parents, and 9 siblings.
