George W. Penington

February 20, 1950 — April 5, 2015

George Wiltshire Penington, Jr., 65, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Sandra Todd Penington entered into eternal rest Sunday, April 5, 2015. His funeral service will be held at the graveside Saturday, April 11, 2015 in Magnolia Cemetery, 70 Cunnington Street at 2:00 p.m. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR INC., 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, Charleston, SC 29414.

George was born February 20, 1950 in Charleston, SC, son of JoAnne Haley Penington and the late George Wilshire Penington, Sr. George contracted Polio at the age of four becoming the last person in Charleston County to be diagnosed with the disease. Even with the challenges he faced he managed to live with grace, style and humor. He was a General Contractor in the construction business and a avid sailor. He was a member of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity-C of C, held US Patent for Stair Climbing Device, was a Building Inspector with Charleston County and also for Isle of Palms and Sullivan's Island in the early 80's. He was instrumental in the Building Dept of the MUSC Children's Hospital. George was a licensed SC Real Estate Broker working with Arthur Ravenel and Section 8 Housing. He was known for his humor, being a loyal friend, loving husband and adoring father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Penington of Charleston, SC, daughter, Gentry Bible, son-in-law Jason and grandson Jack Bible all of Savannah, SC; two brothers, Elliott Penington, Sr. of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Grindley Penington of Johns Island, SC; sister, Mary Watson of Wadamalaw, SC. He was preceded in death by his loving brother Richard T. Penington. He is also survived by his beloved nieces and nephews, Elliott Penington, Jr., Wilshire Penington, Maggie Penington, Jason and Erin Penington, and Grace and Jessie Watson. and his loving extended family, Heidi Rodriguez and daughter Christa , Daniel Volkmer, Hollie Curbow and her children Logan and Melanie.

The family wishes to thank his best friend Frank Carfaro for being there for George and providing comfort and care.
