George Malcolm Alfred Colin Meaburn

George Malcolm Alfred Colin Meaburn, 90, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Janet Mavis Beasley Meaburn entered into eternal rest Thursday, November 3, 2022.  His private graveside service will be held Saturday, November 12, 2022 in The Cathedral of St. Luke & St. Paul Churchyard.  Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.

Malcolm was born September 10, 1932 in Yorkshire, England, son of the late George Edwin Meaburn and Grace Mitchell Meaburn.  He was a former member of the Cathedral of St. Luke & St. Paul and a current member of Old St. Andrew’s Parish Church.

Malcolm is survived by his wife of 67 years, Janet; son, J. Marc Meaburn (Andrea); daughter, Amanda Custer (John); and two grandchildren: Mallory Sorenson and Isabelle Custer, both of Charleston.

Malcolm received his Bachelors’ and PhD degrees from the University of Leeds in Chemistry.  His 65 year career was spent in England, France and the United States.  He retired from the National Marine Fisheries Services in 2013 after 37 years and enjoyed traveling the world with Janet and spending time with his family.  He loved his granddaughters and was immensely proud of them. Malcolm was a humble man who appreciated nature, a good laugh and the value of hard work.

If I should die, think only this of me. That there’s some corner in a foreign field, that is forever England. There shall be, in that rich earth a richer dust concealed.  A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware.  Gave once her flowers to love.  Her ways to roam………....Keats.
