George Edward Makridakis

March 20, 1951 — August 15, 2021

George Edward Makridakis, 70, of Hanahan, SC, entered into eternal rest Sunday, August 15, 2021. His family will receive friends from 6:00PM - 8:00PM, Thursday, August 19, 2021 at the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Rd., North Charleston. His graveside Committal Service will be held at 10:00AM, Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Live Oak Memorial Gardens, 3093 Ashley River Rd., Charleston. Please wear a mask and observe social distancing.

George was born March 20, 1951 in Hackensack, NJ, son of the late Gustav Makridakis and Helen Buranich. Beginning at age 19, he served in the Civil Service in Great Lakes, IL, starting with photo and reproduction work. Advancing to file keeper and reproduction artist. Then to assistant editor of the NAVELEX Great Lakes "Newsbuoy" newspaper. Moving to Charleston, he continued working for NAVELEX as a Duplicator Operator then advancing to mail technician and supply delivery person.

During his career, his uncanny ability to remember details (names, numbers and dates) were not only needed but greatly appreciated. Receiving many awards honoring his accomplishments, including the Meritorious Civilian Service Award and medal. Later receiving a congratulatory and recognition letter from the President of the United States, Barack Obama.

George loved music with a wide variety from Elvis and the Beatles to Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish. He also enjoyed holidays immensely, Christmas being his favorite as he loved lights and decorations. His favorite television shows included The Three Stooges, Andy Griffith, Dog with a Blog and Jessie. George was very kind and pure at heart. He will always be remembered and greatly missed by everyone.

He is survived by three sisters: Julie, Constance (Karl) and Carolyn (Charles), as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Gustav and Helen; two sisters, Catherine and Joanne; one brother, Johnny (Rose) and one brother-in-law, Jack.
