George Ernest Karnazes, 86, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 8, 2024. He was a much beloved husband, father, Papou and friend who will be greatly missed. He will always be remembered for his devotion to family, his infectious laugh and wonderful sense of humor.
George was born August 21, 1937 in Anniston Alabama, to Katherine and Ernest Karnazes. His family moved to Columbia, South Carolina where he grew up and graduated from Dreher High School. He then attended the University of South Carolina, earning a BS degree in Business Administration in 1961. While attending USC, he met the love of his life, Joyce Morris. They were married for 62 years. Following his graduation from College, he began his 37 year career with Moore Business Forms/RR Donnelley and was recognized with many awards of achievement.
During his life, George loved competing in all sports. Fishing and participating in bass tournaments also brought him much joy. George enjoyed coaching and umpiring little league baseball as well as volunteering in his community. After retiring from Moore Business Forms/RR Donnelley in Greenville SC, he and Joyce moved to Mount Pleasant where he worked part time as a starter for Wild Dunes Golf Resort for 15 years. He loved playing golf with his friends and spending time on the course.
George is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Morris Karnazes, his daughter Katherine Guest (Brandon) of Mount Pleasant, his son Ernest George Karnazes of Mount Pleasant, and 5 grandchildren, Sarah Guest, Leah Hughes,(Claibourne), George Karnazes, Christopher Karnazes and Kate Karnazes and one great grand child, Walker Hughes. Also, his niece, Kathy Siokos of Columbia and his nephew, Jim Siokos, of Columbia. He was preceded in death by his sister Connie Siokos of Columbia. The family would like to thank all the wonderful staff and caregivers that cared for George at Shem Creek Health Center, The Sandpiper in Mt. Pleasant, and Bayada Hospice care.
Funeral services will be private with arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel.
