Entered into eternal rest on April 20, 2012, George Herman Dieter, Jr. Residence, Lexington, SC and formerly of Charleston, SC. The relatives and friends of George H. Dieter, Jr. are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday, April 25, 2012 in Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, Folly Beach at 12 noon. Mr. Dieter was born December 20, 1920, in Columbia, SC the son of George H. Dieter and Caroline Lucas Dieter. He was a 1947 graduate of the University of South Carolina. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in Panama and on the Destroyer USS Beale in the Pacific. He retired from the United States Naval Reserves in 1960 as a Lt. Commander. His professional career included many years in the life insurance industry in Atlanta, GA and he was Vice President and Treasurer of Atlantic American Insurance Company. He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Lexington, SC, an instructor for the National Rifle Association and was a Boy Scout Troop Leader. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, winemaking, cooking, coin and stamp collecting.
Mr. Dieter is survived by his children, Rachel Dieter Reinhart (Peter) of Lexington, SC, Christine Dieter Wilkerson (Jim) of Folly Beach, SC and Paul Lucas Dieter (Holly) of Chaska, MN; granddaughter, Caroline Brown of Knoxville, TN; sister, Caroline D. Simons (Sedgewick) of Mount Pleasant, SC; brothers Jonathan L. Dieter (Margaret) of Litchfield Beach, SC and Robert L. Dieter (Marion) of Mount Pleasant, SC and special friends Helen Garrison and David Franklin both of Augusta, GA. He was predeceased by his son, George H. Dieter, III.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at Oak Leaf Village and NHC of Lexington for their loving and compassionate care.
