George A. Carpenter

George A. Carpenter of James Island, SC died April 3, 2011.  He was born in Charleston, SC December 17, 1923, the son of George A. and Margaret L. Carpenter.  In addition to his wife of sixty-three years, Louise Craig Carpenter, he is survived by a son: Craig A. Carpenter and his wife Laneda of Whitehall, MT; a daughter: Lou Ellen Vella and husband Jarrett H. of James Island, SC; three grandsons: Dr. Jarrett  (Rett) H. Vella, Jr of Beavercreek, OH, Daniel M. Vella and his fianc�, Elisabeth Miller of James Island, SC, Andrew C. Vella of Charleston, SC. He is also survived by a daughter-in-law: Yoko Noda of Japan. He was preceded in death by a son, George A. Carpenter, Jr. in 2007, and a brother, Edwin J. Carpenter in 1997.

He was a graduate of the College of Pharmacy, MUSC, and was retired from the Veterans Administration, a life member of James Island Yacht Club, Charleston Elks Lodge #242 and the MUSC Alumni Association, and a Navy veteran of World War II.

The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. George A. Carpenter are invited to attend the funeral services of the former, Thursday, April 7, 2011at 2:00 pm in The Church of The Good Shepherd.  Interment, Holy Cross Cemetery.  Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL Wednesday between 5:00 and 7:00 pm.
