George Richard Canaday went home to His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on October 7, 2014. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Linda Souther Canaday and four children, Richie (Florence), Jennifer, Andy (Sandy) and Candice (Jonathan), five grandchildren, Andrew, Ashley, Cooper, Savannah, Jeremiah and one great grandchild, Ansiel.
George was born April 5, 1937 to Richard Daniel Canaday and Vivian Weeks Canaday. He attended St. Paul's High School and the University of South Carolina. He was a past member of the Hollywood Jaycees, and a lifetime member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Adams Run. He was employed for over 60 years by King Brothers Construction Company, which later was named Island Construction Company. Recently retired, George renewed his interest in the automotive world by purchasing a 1946 Federal Pickup Rat Rod and attending many local car shows, dragging his wife behind him.
A family and friends gathering will be at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, October 10, 2014. A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 4:00 pm, at the Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery, 6869 Parkers Ferry Road, Adams Run, SC 29426.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hopewell Baptist Church, Building Fund, 6869 Parkers Ferry Road, Adams Run, SC 29426.
