Genevieve Dolores Capitan

Genevieve Dolores Capitan, 82, of Charleston, South Carolina, died Tuesday, August 2, 2016. Her Funeral Service will be held Monday, August 8, 2016 in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel, 232 Calhoun Street at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Downtown Chapel.

Genevieve was born May 25, 1934 in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of the late John Joseph Capitan, Sr. and the late Peggy Capitan. She graduated from Bishop England High School and honorably served in the United States Marine Corps. She was a retired administrative assistant for Charleston County Parks and a swim instructor with the YWCA, George Street, from 1960 until 1975, teaching over 4,000 students to swim. She was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her brother, John Joseph Capitan, Jr. (Sherry) of Greenville, SC; two sisters: Catherine C. Jenkins of Charleston, SC and Susan Marie Darby (Ronald) of Franklin, NC; three nieces and four nephews; her dear friends, Veronica and Eric Burn and their daughters Lindsay Charpia and Laura Burn of Charleston, SC.

She was predeceased by her lifelong friend, Betty S. Burn.
