Gene Paul Turner, Sr. 81, of Charleston, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Friday, February 8, 2019. A Gathering of friends will be held Saturday, February 16, 2019 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. A private burial will be held at Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, SC.
Gene was born June 1, 1937 in Dublin, Georgia, son of the late Wylie Turner and Emilie Robinson Turner. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. Gene retired from Equilon Oil Company after 35 years of service. He coached City of Charleston and St. Andrews youth football, soccer, baseball and basketball teams. He supported the Middleton High School Scarlett Vanguard Marching Band 1990-1994 hauling equipment and props all over South Carolina.
He is survived by his daughter, Theresa "Joy" O'Cain (Sherry) of Summerville, SC; daughter, Allison Marie Cunningham (Sean) of Chattanooga, TN; son, Gene Paul Turner, Jr. (Nikki) of Mount Vernon, WA; four grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Lucy, Luke and Rio; companion Louise Ashe of Johns Island, SC, and her daughters Annette Crank of Johns Island, SC, Jackie Luna-Fry of Summerville, SC and granddaughters Casey Haley (James) and their children Laney and Nate, Tabitha Luna-LaRoche (Alon). He was preceded in death by his brother James Turner and sister Mary Barfield.
