Gene Louis Rakar, 83, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Marilyn Joutras Rakar passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2015. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, March 20, 2015 in Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, 1204 Middle Street. Prayers of Final Commendation and Farewell will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The Holy Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 pm on Thursday, March 19, 2015 with the family receiving friends immediately afterwards from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm in J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road.
Gene was born May 25, 1931 in Joliet, Illinois, son of the late Louis Rakar and Rose Riordan Rakar. He was veteran of the U.S. Air Force and spent his career as a Shipping Supervisor with Amoco Chemical Company. He was a parishioner at Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, where he served as an usher and a member of the Men's Auxiliary. Gene was a member of the East Cooper Outboard Motor Club and was an avid golfer. Gene deeply loved his family and friends. He enjoyed a good laugh and was known for his quick wit.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Marilyn Joutras Rakar of Mount Pleasant, SC; his children, Dena Hallman and her husband, Ted of Mount Pleasant, SC, and Tim Rakar and his wife, Leslie of Mount Pleasant, SC; his brother, James Rakar and his wife, Georgianna of Casa Grande, AZ; and his grandchildren, Jaci Luif, Donald Dennis, Dustin Dennis, Sara Bobbitt, Morgan Rakar, Cole Rakar, and Hillary Van Orsdel; and his five great-grandchildren. Gene is also survived by several cousins. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jacqueline Rakar; his son, Robert Rakar; his brothers, Jack Rakar and Rick Rakar; and his sister, Judy Tackas.
