Gene Edward Keen, 72, of Ladson, S.C. died June 6, 2013 at the home of his daughter in Moncks Corner, SC. His death followed a long bout of cardiovascular disease.
He was born in and lived near Richlands, VA until enlisting in the Navy in which he served for six years, after which he was employed as a civilian electronics technician for 27 years at the Charleston Naval Shipyard. Following his retirement he founded and operated a carpentry and repair business for several years. He graduated from Whitewood High School (VA) and earned an associates degree from Trident Technical College in Charleston. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying camping, fishing, canoeing and golf.
Mr. Keen is survived by three children, his daughter Paula J. Brodie (Larry) of Moncks Corner, two sons, Eddy Keen (Barbara) of Worcester, MA and Stephen Keen of Eutawville, SC; two sisters, Gaynelle Smith of Springfield, OH and Brenda Peters of High Point, NC, three brothers, Hubert Keen of Farmingdale, NY, Norman Keen of Collinsville, VA and Ronald Keen of Winston-Salem, NC; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Mr. Keen also had several nieces and nephews and enjoyed time with his longtime friend and travel companion June Pierce.
The family will receive visitors at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road, on Saturday evening, June 8 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The funeral will be Sunday June 9 at Stuhr's Northwoods Chapel at 2 p.m. with internment to follow at Dorchester Memory Gardens.
