Gene Temple Collins Glave, 69, wife of Richard "Dick" Glave of Isle of Palms, South Carolina passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2011. The relatives and friends of Mrs. Gene Glave are invited to attend her Memorial Service on Sunday, July 10, 2011 in Sunrise Presbyterian Church at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 9, 2011 in J HENRY STUHR MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Gene was born March 26, 1942 in Newport News, Virginia, daughter of the late William Eugene Collins and Elvin Smith Collins. She was a Pediatrics nurse manager with Roper/St. Francis Hospital, received the Palmetto Gold Award for nursing, and was a member of the SC Nursing Association. She was the Chairman of the United Way program for the Roper/St. Francis Hospital System, and was a member of the Oncology Nurses Society. Gene was awarded the 2008 Healthcare Hero Award by the City of Charleston, an award voted on by her peers. She was a volunteer for the Dragon Boats of Charleston and was a lobbist for the Susan G. Komen Foundation from which she received the Volunteer of the Year Award for 2010. Gene wrote and performed her own plays such as "The Mammalogues," her one-woman show which was performed nationally. She also acted in various productions at The Village Playhouse, The Dockstreet Theater, the Footlight Players, as well as having written and performed in "Buttercups & Dandelions," which appeared on PBS. Gene was very active in the life of her church, Sunrise Presbyterian Church on Sullivans Island, where she was a member of the choir and the handbell choir, and served on the Session. Above all else, Gene considered her greatest accomplishment to be raising her three sons, and caring for a multitude of dogs over the years. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Richard "Dick" Joseph Glave; three sons, Edward E. Glave and his wife, Lisa of Mt. Pleasant, SC, William P. Glave of Charleston, SC, and Thomas F. Glave of Mt. Pleasant, SC; three grandchildren, Taylor, Caleb, and Katelynn Glave; and one sister, Pauline C. Shofner of Newport News, VA.
