Gaylord Mather Seabrook Bryant, 81, of Wadmalaw Island, South Carolina, wife of Julian Edward Bryant, passed away suddenly and peacefully Friday, September 18, 2026. The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 23, 2026 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway. Her Funeral Service will be held Friday, September 25, 2026 at Grace Chapel, 2513 Grace Chapel Rd., on Wadmalaw Island in the historic community of Rockville at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in St. Johns Episcopal Churchyard, 3673 Maybank Highway, on John’s Island.

Gay was born August 15, 1945 in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of the late Oliver Francis Seabrook and Margaret Irving Palmer Seabrook. She grew up on Wadmalaw Island surrounded by her many low country family and friends. She was an accomplished equestrian, riding and training horses for much of her life alongside her sister Peg and cousin Claudia. She was a graduate of Coker College in Hartsville, SC and spent more than 40 years as a dedicated and beloved teacher in public and private schools in Charlottesville, VA where she lived for many years, and in Charleston, SC. Counted among her many accomplishments are the generations of precious, young minds she gently shaped into lifelong learners. In her retirement she took great joy in spending time with her grandson Palmer and many nieces and nephews and enjoying simple adventures and nature walks with her cherished husband, to whom she was married for 57 years.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter and grandson Juliana Seabrook Bryant Fisher and Palmer James Seabrook Fisher, of Marietta, GA; brother William J. Seabrook (Katherine); Marianne S. Stein; John F. Seabrook (Mary Agnes); Caroline Williams and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Oliver F. Seabrook, Jr. (Augusta); infant brother James C. Seabrook; and sisters Margaret S. Elsaesser (Bill) and Alicia S. Anderson (Bissell).
