Gayle Austin Brown, 80, of Isle of Palms, South Carolina, entered eternal rest Wednesday, February 11, 2026. Gayle was born September 23, 1945, in Orangeburg, SC. Her parents were William Daniel Austin and Patsy Hines Austin.

Gayle was predeceased by her precious daughter Ansley Brown Hurst. She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Eddie Brown of Isle of Palms; her brother Danny Austin of Waynesville, NC; her sister Marion Cameron of Greenville, SC; and her cherished fur babies: Lexi, Bella and Izzy. 

No one should ever think of Gayle as one dimensional. True she was wife to Eddie, mother to Ansley, and caretaker to her beloved pets. That dimension was basic Gayle. Additionally, though, she was spiritual, as a morning devotional was her daily habit. Moreover, she was an artist, gardner, risk taker, reader. AND she made the best macaroni and cheese ever! Too, she worked as an administrative assistant and accountant at Northwestern High School in Rock Hill. She was the administrative assistant to the Athletic Director at Winthrop University the year the men’s basketball team and Gayle went to the BIG DANCE! What a thrill beating Notre Dame was to her!

She loved life and the people and pets with whom she shared her life. Her volunteer work at East Cooper Baptist Church, at various charities, and on the Isle of Palms is a testament that she cared about others.

Her funeral service will be held Saturday, February 21, 2026, at East Cooper Baptist Church, 361 Egypt Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC at 11:00 AM followed by a reception at the church. A Celebration of Life (celebrating both Gayle and Ansley) will be held in Rock Hill, SC, Tuesday, February 24th from 4:30-6:30 PM at the Riverwalk Event Venue formally known as Breakfield (1111 Breakfield Drive). This will be a casual event.
