Gary Douglas Tasker, 83, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Dale Tasker, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.

He was born in Greenville, South Carolina, on April 6, 1942, the son of Irene Leona Tasker and John Harold Tasker. He graduated from Georgia Tech and later went on to receive a Masters and Doctorate at Johns Hopkins University in engineering. He served his entire career of 43 years at the U.S. Geological Survey as a hydrologist with a specialty studying surface water. After retiring at the Survey, he continued serving there as a Scientist Emeritus.

Gary and Dale were married on October 15, 1978, at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, in Herndon, Virginia. They moved to Charleston in 2004 and began attending Grace Church Cathedral. He served as an usher for many years at the 11:00 service and at funerals. He also volunteered at the Grace Church Tea Room. When Grace had to vacate the church for over a year for structural repairs and worshipped at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Gary helped the Altar Guild transport items needed for the Sunday services.

Gary always enjoyed playing golf, walking along the beach, and opera. His favorites were all the Verdi operas and the aria "Nessun dorma" from Puccini's opera "Turandot". He was a kind-hearted man with subtle sense of humor and a genuine smile and laugh.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian Dale Tasker; his brother, John Stevens Tasker; and his brother-in-law, Jeptha Scott Rogers, Jr. (Sue).

Gary's memorial service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church, 98 Wentworth Street, Charleston, South Carolina, on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at 11:00 am.
