Wilkerson, Jr. passed away at her home on Sunday, May 6, 2018 after a brief illness. Her Memorial Service will be held Thursday, May 10, 2018 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service.

Gale was born July 17, 1948 in Johnsonville, South Carolina, daughter of the late William H. Brown and Louise Browder Brown. She lived her earlier years in Georgetown, SC and was a graduate of Winyah High School and Palmer Business School in Charleston. She was employed for 43 years by Associates in Internal Medicine, which was originally opened by Doctors Cline, Hayes and Currie.

While medicine was her profession, shagging was her passion. Gale's paternal grandmother waitressed in Murrells Inlet and patrons would give Gale money for the juke box so she could play music and dance. While Gale continued to shag for fun, she also taught shag and was a fierce competitor - dancing her way into the Beach Shaggers National Hall of Fame in 2011. Gale was a member of the Charleston, East Cooper and Islanders Shag Clubs. She was a member of the Charleston Elks Club # 232.

She is survived by her husband of 3 years, and companion of many Steve; sister, Debbie Brown Altman of Lake City, SC; step daughter, Patricia Noell of Mebane, NC; step son, Stephen Wilkerson III of Fort Lauderdale, FL; several step grand children; nephew, Justin Brown Altman (Danielle); and niece, Morgan Altman James (Jason) both of Florence, SC.
