Gabrielle Gaillard Gregorie, 88, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, widow of Ferdinand Gregorie, Jr. entered into eternal rest Friday, March 7, 2014. Her funeral service will be held graveside Tuesday, March 11, 2014 in the cemetery on Oakland Plantation, 1168 Porcher's Bluff Road, at 3:00 pm. A reception will be held at the Oakland Plantation main house following the service. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL.
Gabrielle was born July 25, 1925, daughter of William Snowden Gaillard and Gabrielle Kirk Gaillard, and raised on Numertia Plantation in Eutawville, South Carolina. She graduated from Winthrop College. In 1947, Gabrielle wed Ferdinand Gregorie, Jr. of Oakland Plantation, Mount Pleasant, where she lived for the remainder of her life. She was an active member and volunteer in numerous organizations in the Charleston community including Christ Church, Colonial Dames, Junior League of Charleston, Meals on Wheels, and Windward Farms.
She was a talented artist and avid gardener with a great love for nature and birds.She is survived by her three sons: Ferdinand Gregorie III (Deborah) of Sullivans Island, William Gaillard Gregorie (Julie) of McClellanville, SC, and Philip Porcher Gregorie (Bonnie) of Mount Pleasant, SC; two daughters: Gabrielle Gregorie Gillies (John) of Awendaw, SC, and Amanda Gregorie Williams (Ed) of Paradise Island, SC; eleven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank their mother's wonderful caregivers: Virginia Simmons, Kia Brown, and Sandra Ascue. Their care and devotion allowed her to remain in her beloved Oakland home in her final years.
