G. Luther Rosebrock, Sr. MT. PLEASANT - George Luther Rosebrock, Sr., 93, husband of Adele Ackerman Rosebrock of Mt. Pleasant, SC passed away on Friday, September 16, 2011.
The relatives and friends of Luther Rosebrock, Sr. are invited to attend his Funeral Service on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 in Rodenberg Chapel at Franke @ Seaside, Mt. Pleasant at 11:30 am. The family will receive friends at the Rodenberg Chapel from 11:00 am until time of the service. Burial will be private. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL.
Mr. Rosebrock, son of the late Ernest Henry Rosebrock and Bertha Wohlers, was born on December 8, 1917 in Charleston, SC. He graduated from Summerville High School, attended the College of Charleston and finished his studies at Lasalle Extension University in Accounting. He became a Certified Public Accountant in 1961. His career began with Southern Ice Company, becoming Vice-President and Manager of Operations. He retired from the South Carolina State Ports Authority as Director of Finance in June of 1983, after 25 years of service. Upon his retirement, Mr. Rosebrock practiced as a CPA until 2003. Mr. Rosebrock was an active member and leader of Advent Lutheran Church of North Charleston, serving on the church council, treasurer of the church and Sunday School teacher. He served his community in many capacities, serving as President of the Franke Home in 1956, President of the Charleston Rotary Club from 1960-1961 and charter member of the North Charleston Rotary Club in 1945. He was Chairman of the Charleston Chapter of the American Red Cross in 1957, served as the Chairman of the American Red Cross Fund Drive in 1959, served as the Chairman of the National Red Cross Nominating Committee in 1960 and Vice Chairman of the Regional Blood Center in Savannah, Georgia.
Mr. Rosebrock was also Vice-President of the Charleston Chamber of Commerce, Board Member of the Salvation Army, served as Treasurer and Board Member of the Coastal Carolina Council of the Boy Scouts of America and was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. He served as President of the South Carolina Ice Manufacturer's Association and as Director of the Southern Ice Exchange. He was also the Chairman of the Finance Committee of the American Associations of Port Authorities and served on the Board of Directors and received the Port Service Award.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Adele Ackerman Rosebrock of Mt. Pleasant, SC; two sons, George L. Rosebrock, Jr. and his wife, Sharon, of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Del A. Rosebrock and his wife, Deborah, of Columbia, SC; five grandchildren, Tradd Rosebrock, Shay Zepp, Ashley Tolson, Courtney Bessinger, Allyson Small and their spouses; nine great grandchildren; one brother, Richard Rosebrock and his wife, Grace, of Summerville, SC. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Ernst Henry Rosebrock, Jr., Walter Rosebrock, Margie Westbury, Erna Ilderton, Norman Rosebrock, and Herbert Rosebrock. He was also preceded in death by a step-sister, Hermine Mappus and a step-brother, Carl.
The family requests that memorials may be made to the Advent Lutheran Church, 3347 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29405.
