Frederick Bertram Wohlers, 94, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of the late Eleanor Harley Baldwin Wohlers died Wednesday, October 31, 2012. The funeral service for Mr. Wohlers will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday, November 2, 2012 in the Martin Luther Lutheran Church, 1605 Harbor View Road. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL.
Mr. Wohlers was born March 14, 1918 in Charleston, South Carolina, where his family owned a grocery store on the corner of Pitt and Montagu Streets. He was the son of the late Frederick Martin Wohlers and the late Helene Adeline Rosebrock Wohlers. He graduated from Charleston High School and was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church. He and Eleanor later moved to James Island where he was a charter member of Martin Luther Church. Mr. Wohlers taught the teenage boys' and girls' Sunday School class for many years and served on the church council as financial secretary. Mr. Wohlers retired from Pearce, Young & Angel (PYA), now US Foods. He loved selling and getting to know his customers.
He is survived by his daughters, Beverly Wohlers Gay and her husband, Sonny of Beaufort, SC and Susan Wohlers Stuckey and her husband, Jon of Stuckey, SC; daughter-in-law, Mary King Baldwin; seven grandchildren, David Norman Gay, Debbie Gay (Chuck) Cain, Sallie Baldwin (Kirk) Spangenberg, Jennifer Baldwin (Scott) Berry, Shane Wohlers Stuckey, Tradd Cook (Carmen) Stuckey, and Tim Lawrimore; eleven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Mr Wohlers was preceded in death by his first wife, Juanita, his sons, Charles Franklin Baldwin and William Ashley Baldwin, and his sisters, Margaret Wohlers Clewis and Ruth Wohlers Clinkscales.
The family would like to express their deep gratitude to a very special caregiver and family friend, Jackie, and thank the caregivers and staff of Summit Place of Daniel Island and Beacon Hospice.
