Frederick Wilson Smith, 100, of Kiawah Island, South Carolina, husband of Florence Pavlick Smith entered into eternal rest Sunday, June 9, 2013. His funeral service will be held Thursday, June 13, 2013 in The Church of Our Saviour, 4416 Betsy Kerrison Parkway, Johns Island, at 3:00 p.m.. Interment, Churchyard. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in J. HENRY STUHR INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL. Active pallbearers include: Phillip Bozzelli, Owen Cox, Brad Cox, Russell Embry, Joshua Bettridge, Terry Gore, Damon Smith and Ryan Embry. Honorary pallbearers include: David Noble, Bob Smilon and Danny Mathewes, Sr.
Fred was born May 22, 1913 in Charlotte, North Carolina, son of Frederick Wilson Smith, Sr. and Rosalie Norris Smith. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served honorably in WWII. He attended The Citadel from 1932 - 1934 and graduated from Charleston Southern University with a BS Degree. Fred was the co-owner of Smith-Fowler Oldsmobile dealership in Salisbury, NC. He was the owner of Fred Smith GMC truck dealership in Charleston, SC and retired as a realtor with Ravenel Real Estate with a GRI Designation. He was a member of The Church of our Saviour and formerly First Baptist Church of Charleston where he was a deacon. He also served as a member on the school board at First Baptist Church School.
In his retirement years, Fred enjoyed traveling to the mountains with his wife, dancing and painting landscapes. He will live on in all the hearts of those who loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years; three daughters: Peggy Smith of Johns Island, SC, Sharon Smith -Mathewes of Mount Pleasant, SC and Marti Embry of Salem, VA; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four step-daughters: Mary Jo Gore of Johns Island, SC, Cynthia Noble of Kiawah Island, SC, Denise Smith of Mount Pleasant, SC and Judy Johnston of Kiawah Island, SC; four step-grandchildren and seven step-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Rick L. Smith.
