Frederick Martin Schlenker, Jr., 88, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Bevoley Salley Schlenker entered into eternal rest Monday, October 26, 2015. His Funeral Service will be held Thursday, October 29, 2015 in St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, 405 King Street at 11:00 a.m. Interment, Bethany Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Frederick was born March 14, 1927 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of Frederick Martin Schlenker and Ervine Floethmann Schlenker. He was a graduate of Murray Vocational High School. He served in the United States Army in Germany during WWII with the International Military Tribunal which conducted the Nuremburg Trials.
After his return he began employment with the Naval Shipyard where he worked for 40 years and met the love of his life, Bevoley Salley. They were married in 1951.
Frederick was a loving son, husband, father and grandfather. In addition to his wife, Bevoley, he is survived by his daughter, Susan S. Black of James Island, SC; son Sr. Master Sgt. Frederick M. Schlenker, III, USAF Retired (Terri) of Orlando, FL; and two grandchildren, Stephanie Lynn (Stevie) Schlenker and Shane William Black. He will be remembered and cherished by them.
