Frederick Henry Dieter

Frederick H. Dieter, beloved husband of Sharon Ann Dieter, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at their home in Mt. Pleasant, SC on March 21, 2023, after a long battle with cancer.

Fred was born in Youngstown, Ohio on December 27, 1949, to Randall and Margaret Dieter.  He graduated from The Rayen School and held bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Youngstown State University, Eastern Connecticut State University and Sacred Heart University respectively.  He was an Art Educator for 37 years in Columbiana, Ohio and Mansfield, Connecticut.

In addition to his thirst for knowledge and education, Fred was also blessed with the talent to fix and build almost anything and always loved the challenge.

Fred, along with his wife Sharon, spent many enjoyable years as educators in Storrs, Connecticut where they raised their much-loved children, Seth and Jennah.  Family was everything to Fred as he always felt so blessed that he and Sharon were able to make it such a large part of their world.

Some of the wonderful things to remember about Fred will be how he loved spending his summers at their home in Sagamore Beach, Massachusetts; sailing, working around the house, or playing cornhole.  Fred also loved baseball, especially the Boston Red Sox and any teams his son or grandsons coached or played for.  He also loved music or playing the guitar, the occasional Guinness (or Black and Tan), a good Sudoku puzzle, skiing down the countless mountains they visited and his many, many hats.  He loved spending Sundays at his son’s home watching the New England Patriots, eating some good comfort food or summers at his daughter’s house helping her create her numerous gardens.

In addition to his wife Sharon of 50 years, he leaves his son, Seth and his wife Whitney (daughter-in-law) of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, daughter Jennah and her husband Joel Smith (son-in-law) of South Hampton, New Hampshire and his much-loved grandchildren, Cole, Brady, Grayson and Madison, who called him Papa.  He also leaves behind his sister, Barbara Gruber of Youngstown, Ohio, brother, Randy Dieter of Cincinnati, Ohio, his sisters-in-law, Michelle Giarusso and Marcia Attea and mother-in-law, Irene Giarusso, along with several nieces, nephews, and countless students and friends.
