Freda Grace Turner Ott, 88, of North Charleston, SC, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at the Bridge At Charleston. A funeral service will be held to celebrate the life of our beloved "Mamaw" Friday, May 19, 2017 in the Highland Park Baptist Church, 6211 Murray Drive at 2:00 pm. Interment, Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road.
Born March 30, 1929 in West Columbia, SC, she was the daughter of the late Wilton Frederick Turner and Floyd Perry Turner. Freda was a graduate of Brookland Cayce High School, where she was a varsity cheerleader and dated the love of her life, Gene Ott.
She graduated from business college and audited classes at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. She was employed by Exxon Mobil Corporate in Charlotte, NC, later becoming a homemaker.Freda was actively involved in her community, in which she was past President of the Greater Charleston Rotary Auxiliary. She had a deep love for Charleston Southern University, where she served on the Women's Auxiliary Council and the Board of Visitors. She was awarded the Distinguished Service Award from CSU in 2009. She also enjoyed serving with Meals on Wheels.
She was a church member at Highland Park Baptist. She had a heart for missions and spent many years serving for WMU and held office at the associational level. She enjoyed being involved in her Joy Sunday School Class as well. However, Freda's first commitment was always her prayer life. Next, was her family.She was reunited, Tuesday, with the one whom her soul loved, Gene Ott. They were married for 35 years.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Vincent C. Ott, brother, Sonny Turner and sister, Dottie Shull. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Kay Ott Ward (Frank Ward) of Goose Creek; grandson, Robby Ott; granddaughter-in-law, April Ott of Florence; grandson, Stewart Ott; granddaughter-in-law, Casey Ott of North Charleston; great-grandchildren: Bryson Ott, Raelyn Ott, Jordan Ott, Evan Ott of Florence and Adeline Ott and Luke Ott of North Charleston; also survived by many nieces and nephews.
