Frank Lake Martin, Jr., 95, of Hollywood, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest on Monday, July 6, 2026. A memorial service will be held Monday, July 27, 2026 in First Scots Presbyterian Church at 2:00 pm. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Frank was born July 26, 1930 in Canton, Ohio, son of the late Frank Lake Martin, Sr. and Louise Murray Martin. Frank was a student athlete through high school playing football, basketball, and baseball. He was accepted to the United States Naval Academy after completing a post-graduate year at Bullis Preparatory School in Maryland. Graduating from the Naval Academy with the Class of 1953 and earning a B.S. in Engineering, Frank was commissioned an Ensign and reported to his first ship, USS Bottineau (APA-235), followed by the USS Moale (DD-693). He resigned his commission after four years and entered the corporate world first working at Kodak and then as a stockbroker at Fahnstock, Co in Rochester, NY. Frank married Sandra Werner July 24, 1954 and had three children. Frank was an avid golfer along with being a private pilot logging thousands of hours in single and dual engine aircraft. He also was an active member of Masonic Lodge rising to 32 degree Mason. Frank, and his wife, Sandra relocated to Camden, SC after opening Winslow Arms, Inc, a custom rifle company. Ultimately the two settled in Charleston. First and foremost, he was a husband and father, active in the Presbyterian church no matter where they lived. After settling in the Charleston area, Frank became an active member in First Scott's Presbyterian Church where he remained an active servant-leader, serving both on the Diaconate and Session. He was active in Men's Prayer Breakfast and enjoyed playing bridge at the church. Frank was also a member of Quiet Birdmen (QB), an organization for pilots.
He is survived by three children, Dr. Frank L. Martin III (son), Lynn A. Martin (daughter), and James H. Martin Sr. (son) (Kathy) along with eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his wife Sandra W. Martin, two sisters, Nancy Martin and Ruth Shafer, and a grandson, Caleb W. Coggeshall.
Memorial donations can be made in Frank's memory to First Scott's Presbyterian Church.
