Frank Anthony Clarkin

Frank Anthony Clarkin passed on Saturday, November 23 in Charleston, SC. He was the son of Helen Carter Clarkin and Dennis Patrick Clarkin and was also preceded in death by his son Robert Patrick Clarkin (Patrick) and older brother Dennis Patrick Clarkin (Chip).

Frank was born August 15, 1958 in Charleston, SC. He grew up on the Isle of Palms, SC and graduated from Bishop England High School (BEHS) in 1976, where he was a member of the BEHS Football Team. Frank is a 1980 Graduate of The Citadel where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. He was a member of The Citadel Rugby Team, and he was instrumental in reviving The Citadel Boxing Team.

Frank attained the cadet rank of First Sergeant and was also a 1980 Bond Volunteer. After graduation, Frank was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Air Force graduating from Air Weapons Controller School, Tyndall AFB, FL. He was stationed at Pease AFB (NH), Luke AFB (AZ), Shaw AFB, (Sumter, SC) and Charleston AFB (SC), and achieved the rank of Major with 15 years of Active/Reserve Service. Frank was ordered on multiple deployments to Saudi Arabia, Sicily and Norway. His final assignment was as a member of the 315th MAW Charleston AFB. As an additional duty, Frank was the Air Force Academy Admissions Officer for the State of South Carolina.

Frank retired from the US State Department, achieved 10 years of service at AT&T Corporation, and was a Graduate of the REALTOR Institute (GRI): Helen Clarkin Realty Isle of Palms. In addition, he was the Principal of Yacht Appraisals, Coastal NC, SC, GA and President of The Clarkin Company.

Frank was a natural, committed leader who was highly involved in many organizations including the Knights of Columbus, the Boy Scouts of America, the Exchange Club, the Charleston Trident Board of Realtors, the Isle of Palms VFW, and the East Cooper Outboard Motor Club. Frank also stayed active with Citadel organizations including the Charleston Area Citadel Club, and his Citadel Class of 1980 Reunion group for which he served as co-chairman.

Frank is survived by his wife, Janie Evers Clarkin, sister Mary Clarkin Taylor (Ray), daughters Lauren Ursula Sims (Micah), Mary Aileen Frost (Talon), Margaret Ellen Malinoski (Scott), Maura Elizabeth Arevalo (Alexis), and a total of eight grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Service will be held at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mt. Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Rd. on Saturday, December 7, 2024. Visitation will be at 1:00 PM with services to follow at 2:30 PM.
