Francis John Young

Francis John Young, 71, died July 17, 2010, in a local hospice facility.


Born August 9, 1938 in Lawrence, Massachusetts he was the son of Francis William and Victoria Gierczunski Young. Frank joined the U.S. Navy and retired as a Nuclear Electronics Technician Master Chief with 30 years of service. He was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the Charleston Base Subvets and the Holland Club. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Branch #269 and American Legion Post #166 in Goose Creek and the Ladson VFW Post 3433 He was a member of the Charleston Base Navy League. Frank was active in the City of N. Charleston and served as the Chairman of the Planning & Zoning Commission. Frank was a longtime Scout Master for Troop #454 and served as the adult leader for 2 contingencies to the National Jamboree in 1973 and 1977; he also served as Commissioner of the Twin Rivers District.


Mr. Young is survived by his wife of 50 years Kathryn Young of N. Charleston, SC; children:  Francis J. Young (Kim), Lawrence J. Young and his wife Catherine, Victoria A. Henwood (Ernesto), Christian J. Young, and Elizabeth A. Young (David); grandchildren: Alexandra and Tyler Henwood, Lawrence and Amanda Young, Francis Bradley Young, Ian and Benjamin Tennant; Special friends Richard and Mary Alfano, Dr. Heinz and Annette Griebseh, Lucky Williams and Jennifer Harrison


The family will receive friends in J. HENRY STUHR NORTHWOODS CHAPEL 2180 Greenridge Rd. on Wednesday July 21, 2010 between 6:00 and 8:00 PM. with vigil prayers beginning at 6:00PM.


The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 510 St. James Ave., Goose Creek, SC 29445 Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 11:00 AM.  Interment with Military Honors at Arlington National Cemetery.    


In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Building Fund, or the Subvets Dolphin Scholarship Fund (payable to USSVICB), I/C/O Carl Chinn, 217 Brailsford Road, Summerville, SC 29485.
