Frances Neal Smyth, wife of William Douglas Smyth of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 17. Services will be held at East Cooper Baptist Church, 361 Egypt Road, Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina on Saturday, July 23, at 11:00 A.M. and at St. Giles Presbyterian Church, 5200 Grove Avenue, Richmond, Virginia on Monday, July 25, at 11:00 A.M. Burial in Hollywood Cemetery will be private. Frances was born on June 8, 1951 in Richmond, the daughter of Julia Jerman Neal and the late Thomas David Neal, IV. She graduated from St. Catherine's School in Richmond and received a B.A. degree in Government from The College of William and Mary. She received her M.Ed. from Virginia Commonwealth University. Frances began teaching in Surry, Virginia and then at Williamsburg Christian Academy in Williamsburg where she met her husband Bill. Bill and Frances were married at St. Giles Presbyterian Church and moved to Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. Frances was active in the life of East Cooper Baptist Church and its day school, Palmetto Christian Academy. Family, church, and education always remained the cornerstones of Frances' life. Frances is survived by her husband, Bill, and her daughters, Rebekah and Sarah, all of 954 Casseque Province, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464. She is also survived by her mother, her sisters Julia Neal Rose (Dick) and Marie Payne Neal, her brother Thomas David Neal, V, her uncle Randolph Harrison Neal (Phyllis), her aunts Mary Leavell Tompkins and Frances Chapman Brown, and their families.
