Frances Van De Venter Smith, 88, of Charleston, South Carolina, went home to her Lord on Sunday, January 4, 2015. Her Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 in the J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 6, 2014 from 10:00 am until the time of the service.
Frances was born January 15, 1926 in Amarillo, Texas, daughter of Lewis and Ethel Curd Singleton. A woman rooted in her faith, she was a member of East Cooper Baptist Church (ECBC) where she was involved in the ECBC Women's Ministries. Frances was a charter member of several churches, including Sebastian Christian Church in Sebastian, FL. She loved all nature, especially gardening, and flowers. Music brought her great peace.
She is survived by her children, Kay Cranmer, Karol Van De Venter, Mary Propes, Melinda Staten, Bill Van De Venter, and Doris Gayle Mascaro; her step-daughter, Linda Pillot; her chosen daughter, Charlotte Price; her sister, Mary Himes; her twenty-one grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren; and her six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by Ethel Singleton, P. G. Hisey, Hazel Hisey, Doris Garnett, William Van De Venter, Sr., and Clifford Smith.
