Frances "Frankie" Cheshire Rhett, 97, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of Francis Prettyman Rhett died Tuesday, August 30, 2022. Her funeral service will be held Friday, September 2, 2022 in St. Philip's Church, 142 Church Street at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in churchyard. The family will receive friends Thursday, September 1, 2022 in the Carolina Yacht Club, 50 East Bay Street at 5:30 p.m. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Frankie was born October 16, 1924 in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of the late Theophilus Parker Cheshire and Frances Rutledge Cheshire. She graduated from Ashley Hall Class of 1942 and from the College of Charleston in 1946. She was a member and Vice President of the Junior League, a member of the Ivy Garden Club an early docent of the Historic Charleston Foundation and a Life-long member of and volunteer at St. Philip's Church. In addition to gardening, she enjoyed boating, dancing and a good game of bridge - all with her many friends and devoted family.
Frankie is survived by her son, J. Cheshire Rhett (Toni) of Charleston, SC; daughter, Helen Rhett Gordon (Ted) of Atlanta, GA; son, Thomas Barnwell Rhett of Escondido, CA; daughter-in-law, Ann Jervey Rhett of Charleston, SC; brother, John Rutledge Cheshire (Julie) of Panama City, FL; five grandchildren: Anne Legare Boulware, Katherine Rhett Coons, Frances Rhett Gordon, Anne Jervey Rhett and Francis Rutledge Rhett; one step-grandchild, Stephanie Gordon ; and two great-grandchild, Anna Blake Rutledge Boulware and Parker Daniel Boulware. She was predeceased by her sons, Francis P. Rhett, Jr. and her sister, Katharine Cheshire Parker Knott.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St Philip's Church, 142 Church Street, Charleston, SC 29401 or to the Ivy Garden Club, 1625 Fenwick Lane, Johns Island, SC 29450.
