Frances Evans Read, 79, of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of Peter Bacot Read entered into eternal rest Wednesday, November 8, 2017. Her Funeral Service will be held Saturday, November 11, 2017 in The Chapel at Bishop Gadsden, 1 Bishop Gadsden Way at 1:30. Burial will be private. A reception will be held immediately following the service. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Fran was born June 20, 1938 in Columbia, South Carolina, daughter of the late Willis Calvin Evans and Clifford Oliveros Evans. She attended Converse College and The University of South Carolina. Fran was a member of St. Philip's Church, The Junior League of Charleston, and a founding member of the Charleston Horticultural Society. She was the first recipient of the Charleston Horticultural Society Volunteer of the Year Award. Fran was also a member of the Lowcountry Garden Club and served as an active volunteer for numerous non-profit/charitable organizations.
Fran lived her life offering an abundance of love to all she encountered. Her organizational skills were obvious to all. Her permanent smile and boundless energy were contagious to everyone she touched. Fran gave tirelessly and unselfishly in countless ways to benefit many families, friends and organizations throughout her life.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Peter; son, Peter Bacot Read, Jr. (Laura) of Dallas, TX; two daughters: Frances Read Puckette (Trapier) of Johns Island, SC and Margaret Read Mason (Todd) of Bozeman, MT; seven grandchildren: Julia Gervais Puckette, Cole Evans Read, Caroline Preston Puckette, Andrew Bacot Read, Elizabeth Darby Mason, Paul Trapier Gervais Puckette, Jr. and Natalie Margaret Mason; and brother, George C. Evans.
