Frances Irene Nuite Lofton

December 29, 1928 — June 18, 2010

Frances Irene Nuite Lofton, 81, widower of Alexander Meldeau "Mel" Lofton, of Mt. Pleasant, SC passed away on Friday, June 18, 2010 at her residence.  The funeral services will be Thursday at the graveside, New Wappetaw Cemetery, McClellanville, SC at ten o'clock.  There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday afternoon, June 26th in Sunrise Presbyterian Church, 3222 Middle Street, Sullivans Island, at two o'clock. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall. ARRANGEMENTS BY J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL.


Mrs. Lofton was born December 29, 1928, in Augusta, GA, daughter of the late Charles Wayne Nuite and Ella Clarke Nuite.  She was a graduate of Aiken High School and  Furman University where she received dual degrees in Music and English.  She was a member of several writers groups in Charleston County.  She was also a Poet, Author and Teacher and a member of Sunrise Presbyterian Church. Surviving are her daughter, Liddy Lofton of Mt. Pleasant, SC; two sons, Alexander M. "Sandy" Lofton and his wife, Pam of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Thomas Wayne Lofton of Mt. Pleasant, SC; three sisters, Charlotte N. Kitchen and her husband, Ken of Wadmalaw Island, SC, Carolyn Clarke Nuite of San Francisco, CA and Barbara Nuite Auld of Hendersonville, NC; six grandchildren, Maggie Marie Penrod and her husband, Brad, Claudia, Reni,  and Molly Lofton, Robert Alexander Knight and Michael Charlton Knight. Flowers accepted or memorials may be made to the Sunrise Presbyterian Church, 3222 Middle Street, Sullivans Island, SC 29482.
