Frances, a devoted Christian, was eighth of the nine children born to Thomas Benjamin Godfrey and Ella Knox Godfrey.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. Knight and is survived by her son, John William Hunter, Jr. of Charleston; grandchildren, Melissa Hunter Welden of Marietta, GA, John III, Jeremy, and Rebecca Hunter of Charleston, SC; and two great-grandchildren, Ava Davenport and George Welden V, both of Marietta GA; Bob’s son, Robert Leigh (Janey) Knight and daughter, Cynde Knight Sisson; and several very dear nieces and nephews.

Frances grew up at 284 Coming Street and on Mitchell Playground in Charleston; and had loving memories of her childhood days and participating in activities at Rutledge Avenue Baptist Church where she was baptized.

She graduated from historic Memminger High School in 1949 and attended Rice Business College. She was a Budget Analyst at the Charleston Naval Shipyard and retired with 38 years of service.

Frances enjoyed being a member of the former Charleston Choral Society; a volunteer at Middleton Place; and a member of the Garden Club of Drayton. In the past she’d been in the church and senior choirs; and the JOY Sunday School Class at Ashley River Baptist Church.

Funeral and Graveside services will be held privately.

Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel.
